In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi is the animating life energy that circulates through the body’s pathways (meridians), maintaining balance and health. When Qi flows freely, we tend to feel healthy and harmonious; when Qi is blocked or weak, we may experience imbalance or stress. You don’t need any prior knowledge of Qi to benefit from this service – our brief explanation is simply to help you understand the foundation of this healing modality. HEQ Qi Healing is an energy work session where our trained practitioner helps balance and harmonize your Qi (energy) using light touch and focused intention. During an HEQ session, you’ll lie comfortably on the massage table – if it’s added at the end of a massage, you will remain draped and relaxed from your massage; if it’s a stand-alone session, you stay fully clothed (or under a light sheet) so you remain comfortable and warm. The practitioner will either gently place their hands on certain areas (such as the head, shoulders, or feet) or hover just above your body. There is no intense pressure or manipulation as in massage; instead, the touch is still or subtle.
Throughout the session, the practitioner focuses on channeling healing Qi energy to you. You might notice the practitioner’s hands becoming warm or a comforting heat radiating – this is common as energy flows. By acting as a conduit for Qi, the practitioner assists your body in clearing energy blockages and restoring balance. This process is similar to other energy healing techniques (like Reiki), but HEQ Qi Healing is our unique approach rooted in Qi-based wellness principles. The goal is to leave you feeling deeply relaxed, energetically balanced, and rejuvenated on all levels.
(Don’t worry if this sounds a bit abstract – you don’t need to “do” anything during the session except relax. Many clients simply think of it as a meditative quiet time at the end of their massage or a peaceful mini-retreat on its own.)

What to Expect During an HEQ Qi Healing Session
Every HEQ session is a calm, quiet experience tailored to your comfort. Here’s a general idea of what to expect:
- Setting and Comfort: You’ll be invited to lie down on the massage table, on your back (or whatever position you’re comfortable in). Soft music or silence, dim lighting, and a cozy blanket or sheet will help create a safe, relaxing environment. If this is after a massage, you’ll already be comfortable; if it’s a stand-alone session, you can remain fully clothed (just remove shoes, and perhaps heavy jewelry) and we’ll ensure you’re warm and at ease.
- Practitioner’s Approach: The practitioner will center themselves and may quietly ask you to take a few deep breaths to begin. They will then proceed to either place their hands lightly on specific areas of your body or hold their hands slightly above you. Common positions include the head, shoulders, abdomen, legs, and feet. They might stay at each position for a few minutes, tuning into the energy at each spot.
- Sensations: As the session begins, you may notice gentle sensations. It’s common to feel warmth from the practitioner’s hands, a mild tingling, or a soothing wave of energy. You might feel yourself drifting into a dreamlike state – some clients even fall asleep (which is perfectly okay!). We’ll give you a moment to reorient, slowly sit up, and gather yourself. Many people feel very tranquil right after, so we encourage moving slowly and not rushing off the table.
Throughout the session, you do not need to do anything but relax. If your mind wanders or you start thinking a lot, you can bring your focus to your breath or the music. If you feel uncomfortable at any point (for example, if you’d prefer not to be touched on a certain area), please speak up – your comfort is our priority, and adjustments can be made (such as hands-off aura work near that area instead). Communication is welcome, but generally most clients remain quiet, which helps deepen the relaxation.

Listen to your body – if you feel like resting or taking a nap later, honor that.
- Stay Warm and Comfortable: After deep relaxation, some people feel a bit cool as their body recalibrates. Keep a sweater or blanket handy. That evening, consider a warm bath or shower, which can be soothing (adding Epsom salts is a bonus for further relaxation).
- Light, Nourishing Food: You may or may not feel hungry right away. If you do eat a meal later, opt for something light and healthy if you can (fresh veggies, soup, etc.). Most clients feel great after their session, but occasionally a person might feel a little “massage hangover” – perhaps a mild headache, fatigue, or emotional sensitivity later on. This is not very common with a short energy add-on, but if it happens, know that it’s usually short-lived. It can be part of the body’s natural adjustment and detox (sometimes called a “healing response”). Just follow the tips above: water, rest, and gentle self-care, and you should feel better quickly. What is HEQ(Heavenly Essence Qi-gong)
HEQ is a modern Daoist energy-cultivation system focused on refining and balancing the body’s Qi (vital energy). It blends traditional qigong techniques with contemporary applications to promote physical, emotional, and energetic well-being. Practitioners guide energy through the body’s key meridian channels (energy pathways) using gentle hands-on or off-body techniques, helping to restore harmony and vitality.
Do I need to do anything special to prepare for an HEQ Qi Healing session?
No special preparation is needed. Wear comfortable clothing (for stand-alone sessions, you’ll keep your clothes on). If you’re receiving it as a massage add-on, just book your massage as usual and let us know you want the HEQ add-on – we’ll take care of the rest. It might help to arrive without a very full stomach (similar to a massage, being too full can be uncomfortable when lying down). Otherwise, just come in willing to relax.
Is HEQ Qi Healing like Reiki?
HEQ Qi Healing is an energy healing modality with similarities to Reiki in that it involves channeling universal life energy (Qi) for healing. The practitioner might even be Reiki-trained – however, we focus on the concept of Qi from Chinese medicine. In practice, the experience for the client is very much like Reiki: gentle touch, relaxation, and energy balancing. The names differ (Reiki is Japanese, Qi Gong/energy healing is Chinese), but the core idea of working with life force energy is the same. So if you’ve had Reiki, you’ll have a sense of what this is, and if not, you can expect a similarly gentle, nurturing experience..
Can I request HEQ Qi Healing as a standalone service?
Yes! We offer dedicated HEQ Qi Healing sessions (minimum 30 minutes). This is a great option if you want more time focused solely on energy work or if you’re dealing with something specific (like feeling energetically “off” or stressed) and would like a full session to address it. While our current promotion makes the 15-minute add-on free with a massage, the stand-alone sessions are a separate service (please check our online booking for pricing and availability). Stand-alone sessions allow a deeper dive into balancing your energy. Many clients alternate between full massage sessions and occasional energy-only sessions, depending on their needs.
How will I feel afterward?
Most people feel very relaxed and peaceful after HEQ Qi Healing. You might also feel invigorated – it can be a mix of calm and refreshed. It’s common to walk out feeling “lighter” or as if a weight has been lifted. Some folks feel a little drowsy right after (like how you might feel after a massage or meditation). This is why we suggest taking it easy if you can. By the next day, many report feeling more energized and clear-headed. Do I have to be spiritual or believe in a certain philosophy for this to work?
